When to Leave Your Boat Insurance Company
from:For boat owners, being able to trust their boat insurance company is important. Agents who are qualified to sell boat insurance should have an idea of the types of coverage you are looking for and should also be able to suggest other options you may not have considered. If you are not happy with the customer service, the lack of insurance coverage options, or in the way the agent handled a claim, you may want to find a new boat insurance company. There are many companies out there that specialize in boat insurance. With a little research, you will be able to find a new agent and purchase a new policy.
You should always give your insurance a year to prove themselves. If you notice that the agent does not seem familiar with your boat or you have not been given answers to certain questions, then you should not purchase boat insurance. But once you have a policy, your boat insurance company should be able to answer questions or concerns you have within a reasonable amount of time. Since most insurance policies are year-long contracts, you may have no choice but to wait until the policy expires.
Comparing quotes with the premium offered by your boat insurance company will tell you if your premium is too high. If you have a high premium and do not want to sacrifice coverage, you should consider making a switch. If you do not need an agent’s help in deciding which coverage to purchase, you can buy a new policy online. This is a good way to gather some quotes, make your choice, and have new coverage in the same day.
While cost should not be your only concern, if you have has limited contact with an agent and you find a lower premium for the same coverage, it may be a good idea to switch. If you have filed a claim with your insurance company and they handled it poorly by inspecting the boat incorrectly, not giving you what was promised in your policy, or trying to raise your premium, you should start looking for a new boat insurance company. Customer service is very important to those who need assistance when an accident has occurred. If your agent does not complete paperwork on time, or you have to wait more than a reasonable amount of time for a medical reimbursement, then you should look for another company.
Finding a boat insurance company you like may require you to ask for references from friends and family who also own boats. This may help you decide which company to take out a policy with. You should not have to deal with poor customer service, slow claims, and other issues. There are many reputable insurance companies that can give you what you are looking for.
